Q: Who first said "I'm From Missouir, Show Me?" A: Bartlet's Familiar Quotations gave credit for coining the phrase to a native of Columbia, MO. Willard Duncan Vandiver, who was born in 1854 and died in 1932 (78 yrs). Vandiver, at the time a US Congressman from Missouri, reportedly made the statement at a naval banquet in Philadelphia, PA. in 1899. The full quote? According to Bartlet's - Vandiver's words were: "I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces me nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have go to show me."
